Bukchon Hanok Village

When visiting foreign countries, a key tourist attraction is a traditional residence. For foreigners visiting South Korea, Bukchon is the ideal place to go in that regard.

Meaning “north village,” Bukchon is not an administrative unit but rather a small area surrounded by the foothills of Mount Bukhan to the north, the Jongro streets of downtown Seoul to the south and Gyeongbok and Changdeok palaces to the east and west. The area encompasses Anguk-dong, Gahoe-dong, Jae-dong, Gye-dong and Samchong-dong. Located north of Cheonggye Stream and Jongro in downtown Seoul, the village has some 900 traditional houses or “hanok.”
