The corn is ripe in July. Plagued by insects, birds and typhoons, what is left for harvesting not much. Yet, it is easy to grow prolific in rough grounds on mountains. In the mid-afternoon when the heat is strong, the villagers take a break. The old folks gather around and have snacks together around this time. They all know each other well and sharing food is not a special event for them. Nature made them generous. They share memories over a snack. Time beautifies some of the hard labor they had to do. The memory of summer is unfolding in the valley on the Great Baedu mounatin ridge. Seonyudongmun valley is over 1500 meters high. It is the valley found and named by Yi Hwang, the great scholar of the Chosun dynasty. He was so attracted by its scenic beauty that stayed here over nine months. |
