At first, visitors will see nothing unique about the area, with those expecting typical French streets lined with outdoor cafes to face disappointment. But a closer look reveals exotic things in the neighborhood. Though easy to miss, a hilly sidewalk of Seorae Road is paved with blocks of red, white and blue symbolizing the French flag. Visitors can also see road signs written in French and Korean. For example, the French word “attention” meaning “watch out” is seen at pedestrian crossings; a bus stop sign says “Marche d’Yisu” or Yisu Market.
