Tandem shipbuilding process developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries

Now it’s time to introduce to you a premier company in Korea. This week’s story is on Hyundai Heavy Industries, the unshakable leader in the world’s shipbuilding industry. Hyundai Heavy Industries started off in March 1972 in Ulsan. Korea’s premier shipbuilder made world history by completing a world-class shipbuilding plant in just two years and three month and, at the same time, finishing a 260 thousand ton grade oil carrier for Greek shipping company Livanos. Since then Hyundai Heavy Industries has led the global shipbuilding industry by setting numerous new records like building 1,000 ships in just 30 years. Recently this shipbuilding magnate stunned the world again. Conventionally, shipbuilders have used the tandem method in building ships, but Hyundai Heavy Industries developed the inundation method for the tandem shipbuilding process. Here’s Department Director Yeo Woon-hak of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipbuilding Division to tell us more about this new inundation method.
