How does Korea support its disabled citizens?


The Korean Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (KSRPD) in 2008 launched the third of its five-year plans for "Welfare Development for Persons with Disabilities." The third plan, which will run through to 2012, is focused on:
1.legislating pensions for persons with disabilities at the earliest date possible
2.setting up medical security and disability prevention systems
3.assuring effectiveness of the right to security and implementation of the Prohibition of Disability Discrimination Act
4.placing special education teachers and assistants in every school
5.taking full responsibility for caring for children with disabilities
6.applying strict penalties on government agencies and companies that are not in compliance with employing persons with disabilities
7.developing welfare services oriented to the consumer (persons with disabilities)
8.establishing a hotline system for persons with disabilities
9.constructing barrier-free cities, and
10.ensuring the maternity rights of women with disabilities.
