Founded in 1972, Hyundai Heavy Industries is more well-known now as a world-leading shipbuilder. Just 11 years after its founding, HHI topped the world’s rankings for both the amount of ship orders they received and construction volume. However, firmly believing that no shipbuilder can be called a true shipbuilder unless it builds engines of its own HHI jumped into the engine manufacturing industry by setting up an engine development division in 1976.
