Located in Jongno, downtown Seoul, Tapgol Park was the first urban park ever to be opened in the country. Designed by J.M. Brown, a British diplomat, in 1897, the park currently serves a wide variety of the recreational needs of Seoulites. It is also of great historical significance: The March 1st Movement of 1919 ignited here during Japanese occupation.
