What is the animal situation like in Korea? How can I get involved in animal rights, welfare, volunteering, adopting or fostering?

The country's law on animal protection was first established in 1991, forbidding cruelty to all animals. Because dogs and cats are common pets in Korea, an Animal Protection Management System was introduced when the law was revised in 2008, to promote animal welfare in the country. Under the system, pets are registered with local governments in cooperation with veterinary clinics nationwide, as well as animal rights groups. The electronic database allows owners to locate their lost pets and keeps people from abandoning their animals.
