World Design Capital (WDC)

The World Design Capital (WDC) refers to the city that leverages design as a tool to improve its urban economy and culture, makes remarkable achievements in improving the quality of the lives of its citizens, and formulates and brings its vision to reality. Held biennially, the WDC competition aims to promote the role of design in the process of improving the social, cultural, and economic lives of various cities around the world. Promoted by the International Design Alliance (IDA), the WDC project selects a city that will serve as the WDC for a year. Torino in Italy was named the first WDC in 2008 and Seoul won the bid to become the WDC 2010 on October 21, 2007.
