The 1st World Taekwondo Muye Championships were held at the Kukkiwon on November 28-29, 2003. There was a growing need to organize a championship in which Poomsae, breaking, self-defense art, etc. are performed in team competition and this event was the first of its kind as a non-sparring world championships.
