The Seoul Metropolitan Government began operating an elevator on Namsan, ‘Namsan Ormi’, on June 30, 2009, to improve pedestrians’ access to the mountain. Seoul said that about 680,000 visitors have used the elevator so far. Before the installation of the elevator the number of visitors to Namsan was about 200 to 300 on weekdays, and now the number jumped to 1,900 a day.
