Japanese Government Document Acknowledges Dokdo is a Korean Territory

The Japanese government has acknowledged the existence of a 19th-century document that could prove Japan's long-standing claim over Dokdo, Korean islets in the East Sea, to be groundless.

According to a recent letter to Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said it was aware of an 1877 document sent by the Japanese Cabinet to other government offices as an official directive.
