An Old American Map Gives a Clue to the Naming of East Sea

An American old map describing the East Sea near the Korean Peninsula as the Sea of Korea has been recently open to the Korean public.

Lee Sangyoon, President of Hannam University, announced on Aug 7 (Monday) that professor Angela Levine of Georgia Institute of Technology has presented him her copy of the old map on Asia, produced during the early 19th century, as a gift while visiting the Hannam University to discuss exchange programs between the Korean and the American universities.
