WDC refers to a city that is able to enhance its citizens’ quality of life and develop its economy and culture via the utilization of superior designs.
In order to highlight the importance of design in the development of the economic, social and cultural life of cities, the Committee will host the International WDC Competition Biennale, at which the capital city with the most superior quality of design will be chosen as the winner.
Under the sponsorship of the International Design Alliance, the winner will be awarded the title of World Design Capital for one year.
Following on from the coronation of Turin, Italy as the first WDC, Seoul, Korea won the title in October 21, 2007 in an official competition.
