Hongdo Island

Hongdo Island, where more than 200 kinds of animals and more than 500 kinds of plants thrive, deserves valuable attention and protection. Various rare plants such as Baekdongbaek (white camellia tree) and Daeyeoppungran (Japanese aeides) thrive on the island, and Hongdoseondalchwi and Hongdokkachisuyeom can only be found here on the island. Therefore more than 90 percent of the whole island, 5.87 square kilometers, was nominated as Nature Protection Area (Natural Monument No. 170) in 1965, and common people cannot enter the area. In 1981, the whole island was included in the Dadohae National Marine Park.
