Remembering Admiral Yi who Turned the Tide against Japanese Agression


On April 28, Koreans remember their national hero, Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Admiral Yi was born 461 years ago today. Admiral Yi’s legacy is not for Koreans only, but his patriotism can be an inspiration to all.

Among Koreans, he is considered one of the great warriors of the past, remembered not only for his brilliant mind and leadership skills—he never lost a single battle or ship—but he is honored for his personal integrity and unstinting courage. Through his many battles, he earned the title, Lord of Loyalty and Chivalry, used in the third highest honor in the Korean military, and he learned the three essentials for the warrior: humility, discernment, and courage.
