What are some beloved Korean folk tales?

Chunhyang Jeon, or The Tale of Chunhyang, is a classic Korean love story of two young people from different social classes. Yi Mong-ryong is the son of a rich aristocratic family who falls for the beautiful Sung Chunhyang at first sight. Mongryong longs for her hand in marriage, but first he has to go to Hanyang (present day Seoul) and take the civil service exam. While Mong-ryong is out of town, the local official, Byun Hak-do, sets his eyes on Chunhyang. When she refuses him, Byun has her tortured. Finally, Mongryong, after passing the exam, returns home, punishes the corrupt Byun, and rescues his beloved Chunhyang. The story has been turned into numerous books, TV shows and films.
