Korea Celebrates Lunar New Year

Although Koreans celebrate the New Year on January 1, many also celebrate Korea’s traditional New Year’s Day, “Seol,” by the lunar calendar.

This is because he Lunar New Year is traditionally considered one of Korea's greatest holidays. For thousands of years, Koreans have marked time according to the lunar calendar. During the lunar New Year holidays, families and relatives gather, have a feast and express wishes for good health and prosperity in the New Year.
